Raikkonen beaches his Alfa during wet FP1
Kimi Raikkonen committed to Alfa Romeo
Kimi Raikkonen caused the first red flag of the Italian Grand Prix weekend after beaching his Alfa Romeo in wet conditions at Monza.
An overnight storm and persistent rain during the morning has made for a very wet track at the ‘Temple of Speed’ with drivers spending their time trying to mop up the various puddles with their intermediate and wet tyres.
It was Raikkonen, though, who was the first early exit as he tried to step on the power through the Parabolica, only for the car to completely snap out of his control.

He went sliding into the barrier with thankfully just a tiny nudge, but was unable to get the car out of the gravel trap.
Raikkonen was not the only one to suffer a slide as Carlos Sainz and Sergio Perez have also had offs.
Sainz avoided a meeting with the barrier, but Perez damaged both front and rear wing after spinning out on an out-lap.

Alfa Romeo opted to change the front wing and floor on Raikkonen’s car, keeping the Finn firmly in the garage for the rest of FP1.
