The F1 starting grid has been set for the Sprint at the Qatar Grand Prix, after a quickfire session under the lights on Friday night.

Oscar Piastri managed to make the most of the session to take pole position for the Sprint, with George Russell splitting the McLaren drivers, and Max Verstappen losing out in qualifying.

Piastri came to the fore in SQ3, clocking a 1:20.055 to beat Russel by three-hundredths of a second with Norris a further two tenths down.

The Briton wasn’t happy with his performance in SQ3 and admitted he was worried he wouldn’t be able to make up positions in the short race.

Behind them, Fernando Alonso was P4 ahead of Yuki Tsunoda, Verstappen, who lost to a teammate for the first time since 2024, and Kimi Antonelli while Carlos Sainz made up the top eight. Only the top eight score in a Sprint race.
