The F1 schedule has started once more for the 2026 season, as the calendar gets back into action in an all-new era.

Lando Norris has started his season as World Champion for the first time, but the sport will be reducing to a 22-race schedule this time around, due to the cancellation of the Bahrain and Saudi Arabian Grands Prix.

Which race is next on the F1 schedule?

Round 5: Canadian Grand Prix

It’s a home race for Lance Stroll next up in Montréal, as Formula 1 will return to Canada after another three-week break in the season.

The Canadian Grand Prix has been a mainstay in the racing calendar since 1961, and joined Formula 1 as a World Championship event in 1967.

It traversed a couple of circuits before landing at its current venue for the first time in 1978, with the circuit’s now-namesake, Gilles Villeneuve, having taken the first victory in Montréal in front of an adoring home crowd.

A popular destination for both fans and drivers, the Canadian Grand Prix has potential for all conditions, and unpredictable racing is a prerequisite of its host circuit.

When is the Canadian Grand Prix?

The Canadian Grand Prix will take place from Friday 22 May until Sunday 24 May, with the race starting at 4pm local time [9pm UK] on Sunday 24 May.

Where is the Canadian Grand Prix?

The Circuit Gilles Villeneuve is a technical challenge facing all the drivers, with precision the key as, rather than run-off areas at most corners, drivers could – and will – be welcomed by a wall instead.

Three separate chicanes in the first and second sectors all have a wall as a hard track limit, with the Turn 10 hairpin firing the drivers onto the long back straight, which also acts as the main overtaking opportunity on the lap.

Navigating the final right-left chicane is key, though, as is staying on-line. If they hit the kerb too hard or run even slightly wide, the Wall of Champions awaits.

A 4.3km circuit with plenty of action throughout, it’s one of Formula 1’s most popular destinations for a reason.
