Kevin Magnussen wishes the ‘fun’ American circuits could host F1 races

Haas driver Kevin Magnussen wishes Formula 1 could visit some of the more “fun” tracks in the United States.
Magnussen made a surprise return to Formula 1 ahead of the 2022 campaign, drafted in by Haas during pre-season testing after they severed ties with Nikita Mazepin.
It was at the conclusion of the 2020 campaign that Magnussen had departed Haas and Formula 1, seemingly for good, saying he missed the feeling of being able to compete for wins.
And during his season and a bit away from the Formula 1 scene, Magnussen was able to sample sportscar and IndyCar action, racing in the IMSA SportsCar Championship and the Grand Prix at Road America round of the 2021 IndyCar season.
Magnussen competed at a host of iconic circuits in IMSA, like Laguna Seca, Road Atalanta, Sebring, Watkins Glen and Long Beach, all tracks that Magnussen would love to see pop up on the Formula 1 calendar.
Admitting there is no way Formula 1 cars could currently be let loose around such venues, that would not stop Magnussen driving one there if he got the chance.
“None of these tracks are even remotely suitable for it, but it would be great fun to drive a Formula 1 car there,” said Magnussen, as per Formule1.nl.
“In terms of racing, I am an extremist, I like it when things get tough and difficult. Put me in a Formula 1 car on any track, and I’ll go for it.”
Kevin Magnussen could race in F1 at such venues one day
Formula 1 is now at a stage where its audience in the United States is the strongest that it has ever been. With Miami joining the United States Grand Prix at COTA on the 2022 calendar, 2023 will see an increase to three United States-based rounds as Las Vegas enters the equation.
Miami and Las Vegas were new builds, while the Circuit of The Americas was opened in 2012, but there is no reason why Formula 1 cannot eventually visit some of these more hallowed grounds in the US racing scene.
With Formula 1 growing stronger still in the United States, it would be no surprise to see more grands prix based in the nation joining the calendar, so it now feels very possible that one of these iconic US venues could start looking into what work is needed to accommodate Formula 1 action.
Sebring, Watkins Glen and Long Beach are all venues of Formula 1’s now rather distant past.
